Beresina

Daniel Schmid
This film tells the story of a beautiful Russian call girl named Irina. Irina ends up in a fairy-tale Alpine country, and she eventually begins to believe in it without reservation. A shady lawyer introduces her to a growing clientele which includes prominent members of the business world, politics, the military and media. She gets to know the country and its people and studies its myths and traditions. Gradually, she delves deeper and deeper into a mysterious labyrinth of interest groups behind a financial scandal of international proportions, though these groups only seem to use her as an informant. With her back to the wall as the result of a blackmail attempt, Irina invents dubious stories about her customers, which, strangely enough, prove to be true. In danger of being deported and unaware of the consequences, she starts a coup planned by a forgotten political organization many years ago: the Beresina Alarm. As arranged at the time, the person to give the Beresina Alarm must assume power afterwards. The survivors come to an agreement with the new regime and the powers behind the throne, Irina is crowned the new ruler.
