Joint Venture

Dieter Berner
Prague 1994, hotbed of international profiteers. Harada, an aged Japanese, has found a front woman, Ewa, a second-rate night club dancer from the hotel bar. The plan is that at an auction, she will buy a house on the River Vltava on his behalf. Christian and his boss and lover, Liane, sell fridges in Prague which they have taken on in Vienna for disposal. The money for larger east-west undertakings could be available, but there is no front man. When the old Japanese man, swamped by the excessive demands of his Czech fiancée, collapses just before his wedding, Christian takes over the position left vacant at the altar. Ewa, however, has her own ideas on the subject of front men. Each tries his luck at the expense of the other. A turbulent game of deception and self-deception ends in a Czech-Austro-Japanese joint venture.
