1936 to 39. While half Europe is being lost in fascism, the Spanish Republic resists against the military revolt under Franco. The Spanish and Austrian protagonists of the film, at that time very young, take part in the defense of the Republic. The war is lost in 1939. For the losers the odyssey through French, German and Spanish concentration camps starts now.
