Dealing with Guilt is a documentary reckoning with a chapter of Austrian wartime and post-war history. Its subject is the Aryanization of the Eibuschütz clothing house in Linz by the family of director Sabine Derflinger. We meet protagonists who, as those directly affected and as descendants, stand on the side of the victims as well as that of the perpetrators. In many voices, the film tries to grasp how families deal to this day with the consequences of injustice suffered or committed. The fate of two families stands in for a way of confronting the Shoah, far from the familiar images of horror.
