PEACOCK at Venice Settimana Internazionale della Critica

Bernhard Wenger’s directorial debut PEACOCK is one of the contenders of the 39th Venice Settimana Internazionale della Critica (August 28 to September 7, 2024). Wenger’s first feature film, starring Albrecht Schuch, Julia Franz Richter, Anton Noori and Maria Hofstätter, was produced by Vienna-based NGF Geyrhalterfilm.

The tragedy of a ridiculous man. His growing awareness and the inevitable realisation of a bitter truth: Life is fiction. Life is appearance. Life is vanity. An ironic and bitter film, at times fiercely funny that reflects the existential condition of the contemporary Man. There are echos of Lanthimos and Östlund but with a novel sense of compassion that is both sincere and exceptionally profound.
