Comedian Harmonists

"If we hadn't been forced to split up, we'd be more famous than the Beatles by now," claims Roman Cycowski, the last survivor of the "Comedian Harmonists." And he's undoubtedly right. The group's songs have seen an unequaled renaissance in the past few years. And who is not familiar with them: "Veronika, der Lenz ist da" and "Wochenend' und Sonnenschein," to name just two. Although these songs play an important role in "Comedian Harmonists," this is not a music film as such. The individual band members and their odyssey from complete anonymity to the height of popularity and back again within a single year are the main focus. The tragedy of the "Comedian Harmonists" is our priceless and unpredictable century condensed into a feature film. Their fate reflects man's timeless dreams of friendship and success as well as his fear of defeat, separation and despair.
