Gassen is a village of mountain farmers 1600 metres high in the Hohe Tauern of East Tyrol. In 1965, the formerly flour- ishing hamlet abruptly became a ghost village when a landslide destroyed two houses and killed six people. Just at the turn of the millenium, the long sleep suddenly ends. A new generation has grown up, the fear of another landslid is overcome.
