We are  shocked and deeply sad to learn that Michael Glawogger has passed on. Michael Glawogger was one of the most prolific  Austrian filmmakers, an eminent documentarist, globally acclaimed for his breathtaking and irritating documentaries like Whores' Glory, Workingman's Death and Megacities.

Michael Glawogger and his team set out for a journey without destination and his new film UNTITLED – FILM WITHOUT A NAME. No concept, no direction, no intention have been defined. Curiosity and intuition will be the driving forces for a filmmaker, who for once doesn’t want to pursue a particular theme but observe the world and its stories as he is moving ahead.

Sex is for sale everywhere. The marketplaces vary depending on the society, and they are reflections of it. Michael Glawogger observed the business in Thailand, Bangladesh and Mexico in more or less forbidden zones semi-concealed in the society's shadows, then created a triptych on prostitution which is filled with powerful images. Während er zur Zeit die ersten Bilder für seinen neuen Dokumentarfilm  Whores' Glory in Bangladesh einfängt, sind die Kopien der Komödie Contact High und der Josef Haslinger-Verfilmung Das Vaterspiel bereit für den Kinostart.

Michael Glawoggers Arbeitskalender ist 2007 wieder besonders dicht: eine Romanverfilmung im Frühling, eine Komödie im Sommer, und die Weiterentwicklung eines neuen weltumspannenden Dokumentarfilmprojekts (Whores' Glory). Den Beginn macht Das Vaterspiel, eine Kinoadaptierung des Romans von Josef Haslinger mit Helmut Köpping in der Hauptrolle.  Die Fertigstellung ist für Frühjahr 2008 geplant.

Michael Glawogger hat in Workingman's Death fünf imposante Bilder zur Arbeit im 21. Jahrhundert gezeichnet und körperliche Schwerstarbeit an ihren äußersten Grenzen voll archaischer Intensität und tänzerischer Leichtigkeit sichtbar gemacht.

«Work can be many things. Often it is barely visible, sometimes, difficult to explain and in many cases, impossible to portray. Hard manual labor is visible, explainable, portrayable.
